How Qiu Qiu Works on tehyan
Qiu Qiu uses a standard 52-card deck. Each player receives two cards and must form a combination—a "hand"—that ranks against the dealer's hand. The goal is simple: your hand value must be higher than the dealer's to win. If your hand ties the dealer's, the result is a push (no win, no loss). If your hand is lower, you lose your stake.
Hand values in Qiu Qiu are calculated by adding the face values of your two cards, then taking only the last digit. For example, a 7 and an 8 total 15, which becomes 5 in Qiu Qiu scoring. A 9 and a 6 total 15, also becoming 5. The highest possible hand is 9 (e.g. 9 and any card, or 4 and 5). The lowest is 0 (e.g. 0 and 0, or 10 and 10).
On tehyan, your two cards appear face-up on screen. You see your total immediately—no calculation needed. The dealer's cards are dealt face-down initially; one card reveals after you decide to play or fold. Once all players have acted, the dealer's second card flips, and we compare hands automatically.
Each round on our Qiu Qiu tables follows the same sequence: cards deal, you review your hand, you decide to play (match the stake) or fold (forfeit your initial bet), the dealer reveals, and we settle. The next round begins within seconds. This pace keeps the game moving and allows you to play multiple hands in a short session.
Hand Rankings and Special Combinations
Beyond basic hand values, Qiu Qiu recognises special combinations. A "pair"—two cards of the same rank—beats any non-pair hand of the same value. For instance, a pair of 5s (value 0) beats a 9 and a 1 (also value 0). This distinction matters when hands tie on their last digit.
Some tehyan Qiu Qiu tables also feature "bonus" hands. A pair of 9s (called "Qiu Qiu" or "double nine") is the strongest hand possible and often pays extra. A pair of 8s or 7s may also carry bonus payouts depending on the table rules. Always check the table's payout schedule before sitting down.
- Hand value 9: highest rank (e.g. 9 and any card, or 4 and 5)
- Hand value 8: second highest (e.g. 8 and any card, or 3 and 5)
- Hand value 0: lowest rank (e.g. 10 and 10, or 5 and 5)
- Pair bonus: two cards of the same rank beat non-pair hands of equal value
- Special bonus: pair of 9s (Qiu Qiu) often pays extra on designated tables
